The Lord Strange Co. is dedicated to producing original theater in the New York City area with a core group of talented writers, actors, directors and designers. We seek to create an ensemble that is collaborative and yet mindful of traditional theater roles.

In its short history, the Lord Strange Company has produced high-caliber theater typical of much larger companies. In its busy first five seasons LST has produced two festivals of one-acts, three entries in the Samuel French Short Play festival, Chekhov’s Rifle at The Greenwich Street Theater and the U. S. debut of Nelson Rodrigues’ The Asphalt Kiss at 59E59 Theaters.

Pornographic Angel,
based on the short stories of Nelson Rodrigues

“I am a child who sees love through a keyhole. I was never anything else. I was born a child and am bound to die a child, and the keyhole is my lense. I am, and always have been, a pornographic angel.” -- Nelson Rodrigues

Following its U.S. debut production of Nelson Rodrigues' The Asphalt Kiss, The Lord Strange Company recently purchased the English-language rights to a collection of short stories by Rodrigues entitled Life As It Is. The script for the upcoming production, Pornographic Angel, is comprised of a selection of these short stories. Pornographic Angel is an original theatre production based on short stories by Nelson Rodrigues , Brazil's most acclaimed playwright. Hailed by The New York Times as "the Giant of Brazilian theatre," in the 1950s/60s Rodrigues wrote fiction inspired by the dark side of Brazil's middle class for the newspaper column "Life As It Is." Pornographic Angel brings Rodrigues' eerie short stories to American audiences today through physical theatre, video, and music.
