Dear Friends:

In its short history, the Lord Strange Company has produced high-caliber theater typical of much larger companies. We began very modestly in 1999 when we produced our first play, Beth Holden’s The Royal Flush, at a housing complex on Second Avenue in New York City. Since then we have grown steadily, and last year we were nominated for a Drama Desk Award and competed against major Broadway productions.

In many ways 2007 is our most ambitious season yet. We recently purchased the English-language rights to a collection of short stories by renowned Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues. In a first for our company, we hope to take our adaptation of these stories, Pornographic Angel, to festivals in Toronto, New Haven, Philadelphia, Chile and Romania, culminating in a four-week run at a downtown New York theater.

To prepare for such a demanding schedule, and in keeping with director Claudia Tatinge Nascimento’s collaborative approach, which borrows both from her experience in Brazilian theater and her background in the Grotowski technique, we are engaging in a much lengthier rehearsal process than normal.Amazingly, all that we have accoplished so far has been with very little outside funding. All of our productions have had minimal budgets with actors receiveing symbolic stipends and designers often volunteering their work. 

We believe our new season will take us to new heights. However, our success will not be possible without the help of donors and contributors. We hope to establish a mutually beneficial relationship in which you can be a part of our future and help us grow.
